The European Union wants to prohibit United States cheese-makers from using historical European cheese names, like Brie, Gruyere, and Parmesan. This issue was raised during negotiations over the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, and comes at a time in which the United States is the largest single exporter of cheese in the world, with almost a quarter of that from Wisconsin. Producers in the states worry that a change in name would confuse consumers, but I see it as a chance for creative genius.
